Well my daughters go to a private school (I am bragging). But I must also mention that every year there is this office that I visit at the school. The office is located behind the reception. I call it the promise office. This is where I go after I have received the letters from the school with the red stickers urging me to pay, this happens every year. I go in the office and look at the lady straight in her eyes and say, I will pay this amount by this date I promise you, and then I sign somewhere.
I know I am not the only one who visits this office, come report collecting time, there is always a queue there of parents going to make arrangements so they can get the reports I suspect. I have feeling I will be in the queue next year.
Enough about my personal life, I want to talk about this private school phenomena that’s currently there in the country. There is these schools called Curro springing up everywhere. They seem to be good, and a bit pricey. But they are everywhere especially in new residential developments in Gauteng.
Anyway, who would take their kids to the public schools. I would rather go to the promise office every year just so that my kids don’t have to go to the public schools. But you see, this is not necessarily why you have such schools like Curro, there is an agenda and it is not only within the schooling system.
There is a massive withdrawal in this country by those that are not happy with how government does things, which is those that have the the money, old money in many cases. What do they do, they build their own and run it the way they want to. You can tell from the founding principles of Curro that they would not allow Muslims in the school. It is a Christian school. They flippen even have disciplinary action if you don’t greet the teacher (check their policies, online)
So, what some are saying is, well, this government is failing us, so let’s just start our own thing, and then what happens the black middle class follows. Bo Given they now think they are better because their kids speak this English when they get home (kasi).
As I said, this is not only in the schooling environment. Just look at how little towns are mushrooming everywhere.
The withdrawal is well organized and the whole intention is not to build the country, along the democratic values. Be aware of this withdrawal and be careful not be be found encouraging it. This country and the continent needs all hands on deck. It is you who has to make it better, stop pointing fingers. If you can read this you are old enough to build the country for the better.
Resolution: stop being a spectator, Africa needs you.
Resolution 2: pay school fees on time
